totally stoked to report back on the epic kathryn sawers gig. she's as amazing as ever and stretching over her big pregnant bump, she was as enchanting as always. here's our friends at lost and found's chat about it

Intimate is a word. The only word that can describe how the gig on Saturday night in Project Slogan was. Crammed from wall to wall, the people of Aberdeen came in herds all with one intention. To swoon and coo over the beautifully talented Kathryn Sawers. Those who know of Kathryn’s work will know her appearances on stage are fair and few. Not to mention infront of a real piano too, thus providing the perfect setting for an intimate and rare performance from the lovely lady herself. With support from the incredibly talented Fiona Keenan, and the wonderful Sarah J Stanley. It was a perfect night had by all.
Here are some photos from the evening. To those who were there, i can but only apologise about how bloody warm it was! Like i said, intimate is a word.

project slogan hosts the launch of the first ever issue of the 4th estate, aberdeen's newest journalistic publication

'The 4th Estate, in its most basic sense, refers to an influential – yet unofficial – societal force, and is today most often applied to print journalism. The name was chosen both to acknowledge the value that is placed in the media, as well as to call attention to the tendency of major media outlets towards particular political and cultural biases, be they expressly stated or not. At the heart of this publication is the belief that any view that stands up to criticism, is insightful, interesting and challenging, is worthy of a place in print alongside a multitude of others, including those that may contradict it.
We provide a platform for writers and artists to express themselves without the limitations of editorial hierarchy, or Editors-in-Chief. We see no need for regular columns, or to direct a writer’s ideas at all. Our primary concern is with the quality, not the content, of our material, allowing us to tackle whatever subjects take our fancy.
All of our contributors are dedicated volunteers, so we may focus on maintaining our ethos of free speech, encouraging thought-provoking perspectives, inviting debate and sparking imagination. We also strive to help independent artistic and community minded enterprises, bringing our audience's attention to those we, as a group, feel deserve our support for the good work they do.'

buy art and money is cheaper is an interactive exhibition exploiting our own in-house currency. in a series of evening events participants are invited to buy 'art' (our bank notes) and then they are invited to swap them for other things like other pieces of art, juice and what not, for cheaper than usual (cheaper-get it?). there's no preview - the dates for the events are:

teenage riot

in association with VICE UK and their plight to get this film shown around the UK as much as possible, we screened the film 'teenage riot' at project slogan.

'People in Britain like to call the youth apathetic, but once they stormed the Tory Party HQ at Millbank in response to the coalition government’s raising of student fees, everyone started calling them thugs instead.

In “Teenage Riot” VBS follows the progress of the largest period of civil unrest in England since the 80s; from the newly politicised teenagers screaming abuse at the leaders, to the anarchists praying for a popular uprising and the gangs who use the protests as an opportunity for theft and violence.

Mainstream media have their accepted view of the events, but on the ground, away from the press areas at protests (yes, they exist), it all looks very different. “Teenage Riot” shows the embarrassing, scary, hilarious, revolutionary and inspiring things that happen when the youth question the state and asks: what will the legacy of these protests be? As state cuts spread, the police are preparing for more violent protests, lead by the armed teenage gangs who’ve tasted civil disobedience in the student protests of 2010. Is this really the start of a long period of violent public defiance, or just a meme in a balaclava?

During the making of this DIY film two VBS cameramen were beaten up by cops and one was mugged inside a protest. We spent a combined 150 hours in various “kettles” and we all had to suffer the indignity of watching our peers breakdance for justice. That was the worst bit.'

commited to promoting contemporary art in our city, we decided to market the gallery through building some facilities into the gallery. previews are the same and shows are as usual, but now we are open during the week and offering you the opportunity to sit in, have coffee, lunch, network, use free wifi to work and get up close and personal to project slogan! our new venture for year 4 or our existence is to redefine the term 'art gallery' in our city and let people know we are approachable, friendly but also uncompromising on the art we show. it's an experiment of sorts and our 'pay what you want' cafe is open from july 2010 and then mon-fri 10am-3pm. we are also building a collection of zines and stock art journals for you to read too. for the first month of the cafe existing we didn't have a show up as such but just turned the gallery into a massive billboard for the concept

art students karen law and nik lowitt constructed a booth with a large two way mirror side on the window of the gallery. from the outside it looked like a massive mirror but inside were karen and nik observing, taking pictures and other such voyeuristic documentations. as a kind of commentary on their 'stay' in the booth, they installed an exhibition of text works, film and photography inspired by what they has seen and heard during the two weeks previously. of course all identities were obscured when appropriate.

lynn hynd's works have advanced out of a focused investigation surrounding the relationship between line and form. through screen printing directly onto plaster surfaces, she explores the tension between the printed surface and the inherent object-ness of the works, without them ever becoming exclusively identifiable as objects. concerned with the line being materialised as a cut, as an amputation she sees the new work as torn paper fragments that sit within a larger dialogue between painting and sculpyure, solid and void, two and three dimensions

a temporary publishing house was set up in the gallery by print makers kirsty hendry, tessa androutsopoulos, alexander storey-gordon and grant mcallister. everyday from 1pm - late was spent making lofi screen prints, zines and drawings all contributing to a huge wall of pictures. they invited other artists and the public to come and make prints, images or whatever they fancied. after two weeks the publishing house went into liquidation and closed up. that night we enjoyed a look at the installation-like piece and the artists could step back form and have a look at what they had made

this collaborative exhibition came about when local artists gudrun bombosch and margaret stewart met with the loch court knitting group at an open day where they were selling recycled knitted accessories previously this year. the aim of 'oh aye' was to overcome thresholds of generation, age and cultural backgrounds through the shared interest in knitting. the exhibition also gave place to a series of events including a knitting workshop, yarn bombing and bingo night at the gallery

in this solo show by moray hilary he installed a series of drawings and sculptures. in essence the work attempts to create evocative methods of picture making. it would propose that through multifarious means it is possible to take painting to unusual and metaphoric places, away from the canvas and stretcher. his work encourages playful spatial interventions, that challenge the audience’s perceptual and intellectual capacities
